May Fair Volunteers.  Can you spare an hour or two to help run stalls on May Day?  It is our 40th Fair and the main beneficiary is Noah’s Ark Children’s Hospice.  If you can help on the day please sign up on the sheet at the back of church!

May Fair Donations.  Good quality gifts, china and glass, tombola items, toys and games & books appreciated.  Please leave donations on the bench inside the main door.  Donations of cakes and sandwiches and plants for sale on the day much appreciated! Thank you!

Raffle Tickets will be on sale next week.

May Queen.  The ballot is open to become our May Queen (aged between 7 & 11), Page Boys and Attendants. Please send names, ages, addresses and telephone number to the parish office or email by Sunday 29th April.

Weekly Parish Email Newsletter.  Changes to data protection legislation means that we need to ask you to sign up again if you would like to continue to receive the weekly parish newsletter by email.  The form to do this is available at and also via a link on the home page of the church website.  If you don’t already get the emailed newsletter and would like to do so in future please sign up using the same form.

Weekly Giving Envelopes are still available at the back of church on the Sideman’s table, please collect you set if you have not done so already.  Thanks, Mick Meur.

Baird Memorial Homes Vacancy:  The Baird Memorial Homes comprise six self-contained flats, and a ground floor vacancy has occurred. The homes were established over one hundred years ago as a charity and the area of benefice is quite specific. Residents have to be over 55 years of age and resident within the parish boundary as it was when they were built, which is approximately the parishes of Christ Church Southgate and St Andrew’s Southgate. Residents have to be of limited financial means.  Applications for the vacancy should be made to the Chair of the trustees of the Baird Memorial homes. 1 The Green, Southgate, London N14.

Wednesday 25th April: Funeral of Barney Casserly at 1 p.m. in church.

Thursday 26th April: The Prayer Group meets at 2 p.m. in church. 

Friday 27th April: Coffee Morning and Craft Club.  Please join us from 10.15 a.m. – 12 p.m. in Church for coffee, tea and biscuits.

Friday 27th April, 6.30 p.m.: Treble Voices Evensong. The Choristers will be singing their first Choral Evensong of term this Friday at 6.30pm in lieu of Evening Prayer. Do please come and support if you are able. The next Treble Voices Evensong will be on Friday 22nd June.

Saturday 28th April: Wedding of Alexander Pyle and Adriana Patel at 1 p.m.

Saturday 28th April: May Fair Stock Sorting Morning from 10am-1pm.  We will be sorting items donated for sale to make sure they are in working order, removing stock that is damaged or cannot be sold and boxing up ready to put out on May Day. Helpers much appreciated!

Further Notices

Sunday 29th April, 11.30 a.m.: The Annual Parochial Church Meeting will take place in church after the 10 a.m. Eucharist.

Sunday 29th April, 5 p.m.: Vocal Recital by the Director of Music, Richard Brain. To mark the arrival of a new church piano Richard shall be giving a vocal recital of English song repertoire including works by George Butterworth and Ralph Vaughan Williams. Piano accompaniment will be by Kate Macpherson. The performance will be followed by refreshments before Choral Evensong at 6.30 p.m. Tickets will be £5 (under 18’s free) in support of the Choir Tour Fund for their to Venice 2019 trip and are available from the Sidesman’s table at the back of church or reserve via email at This will be Richard’s first full recital at Christ Church and is definitely a date for your diaries!

Sunday 29th April, 8 p.m.: The next Top Step Talk takes place in the Reception Room (bar) and will feature Fathima Nafeel from the Noah’s Ark Children’s Hospice.  This is an excellent opportunity to find out more about the work of the main charity to be supported by this year’s May Day Fair.

Tuesday 1st May: Funeral of Michael Clark at 1.30 p.m. in church.

Monday 7th May: THE MAY DAY FAIR!

Monday 28th May, 5 p.m.: The Choir are singing Choral Evensong at St Paul’s Cathedral. Please do come and support the choir as they make the first of their two trips to St Paul’s Cathedral this year. Do make your association to the choir known to Sidesman if you wish to sit in the Cathedral’s Quire stalls.

Sunday 1st July, 11.30 a.m.: A History of Venice Talk by Richard and Timothy Brain. To get you in the mood for the Choir’s tour to Venice next year Richard and his father Timothy will be giving a talk on the history of Venice. The city of Venice has a fascinating tale to tell from its earliest days as a swampy retreat for its embattled inhabitants, to the high glory days of the Venetian Republic. Timothy and Richard both read History at University, and Dr Brain now regularly gives talks all over the country as a police academic. Tickets will be £5 in aid of the Choir Tour Fund (under 18’s free) and will be available from Richard at
