This Week’s Notices

We have received a letter from the Bishop of Manchester in response our book of condolence.

“Thank you for your letter enclosing the book of condolence which you have had open in your church following the bomb attack in Manchester.  Please pass on my thanks to your parishioners for their kindness at this difficult time for the people of Manchester.

I have passed the book on to Manchester Cathedral who are gathering together the responses we have received.

We have been overwhelmed by the support and prayers which have arrived from far and wide.  The way the community has reacted and pulled together following the bomb is an inspiration.  There will be difficult times ahead for those involved in these tragic events and we will need to continue to be there for them in the weeks, months and years ahead.

Your continuing prayers would be much appreciated.

Yours ever, +David Manchester.”

Today

June-July Rota is available to collect from the back of church.

Choral Evensong at 6.30 p.m. to commemorate 75 years since “Operation Squabble”: Local pilot Ken Gatwood dropped a Tricolore flag on the Arc de Triomphe in Paris on the 12th June 1942 as an act of defiance.  In 1949 a special thanksgiving ceremony was held in Broomfield Park, when a replica of the flag was presented back to Southgate, which still hangs at the back of church.  In this special service to commemorate this act of bravery and precision flying, the RAF museum will be attending and are particularly interested in meeting anyone with a connection to the operation or the presentation ceremony.

Top Step Talk – “My Life in Policing” at 8.15 p.m.  We are delighted to welcome Tim Brain (Richard’s father) to the Reception Room to give an entertaining account of his experiences in the police force, a career that culminated in his appointment as Chief Constable of Gloucestershire.
