David Hinitt has been Assistant Director of Music at Christ Church Southgate since May 2005, after reading for a degree in Music and Sound Recording from Surrey University (Tonmeister). He is in great demand as one of the country’s award winning leading independent recording engineers working with many recording companies including Hyperion, EMI and Sony. In his professional career David specialises in recording choral and organ music, and has worked with many of the UK’s leading choirs including Westminster Abbey, Westminster Cathedral, St Paul’s Cathedral, Polyphony, Kings College Cambridge, Trinity College Cambridge and The King’s Singers.
At Christ Church, David is the choir’s primary accompanist for both services and concerts, playing a wide range of sacred repertoire from the past 500 years, including Bach B Minor Mass, Duruflé Requiem, Handel Messiah and Langlais Messe Solennelle. David also accompanies the choir for their regular cathedral visits around the country and has played the organ at many of the country’s finest cathedral including Ely, Gloucester and St Paul’s, as well as York Minister. Previous solo organ performances have included Silent Film improvisation for Phantom of the Opera (1925) and the German expressionist science-fiction drama Metropolis (1927). David was awarded his ARCO in March 2016.
