Lay Readers in the Church of England are not ordained but are lay members of the church, who after some years’ training, are licensed to preach, assist in worship and undertake many pastoral duties.
Cathy Dallman has been a lay reader at Christ Church for many years. She has two grown sons and is a graduate in Zoology from London University, now retired from teaching Biology. She preaches frequently at our services and plays an active role in many of the social and charity functions as well as visiting the sick and the housebound. One of her sons also works for the Church as a missionary in Japan!
Jackie Anderson was licensed as a lay reader in December 2008. As well as assisting the clergy in several areas, including taking the sacrament to the sick and infirm, conducting Evensong and acting as liturgical deacon at the Eucharist, Jackie assists in the running of our Sunday School. She also chairs our Social Responsibility Committee, which raises thousands of pounds for local, national and international charities each year.
