Lay Readers

Lay Readers in the Church of England are not ordained but are lay members of the church, who after some years’ training, are licensed to preach, assist in worship and undertake many pastoral duties.

Cathy Dallman
has been a lay reader at Christ Church for many years.  She preaches frequently at our services, visits the sick and the housebound and plays an active role in many of our social and charity events. Cathy also chairs our Pastoral Committee. A graduate in Zoology from London University, now retired from teaching Biology, Cathy has two grown sons – one working for the church as a missionary in Japan!

Jackie Anderson was licensed as a lay reader in November 2008. As well as assisting the clergy in several areas, including taking the sacrament to the sick and infirm, conducting Evensong and acting as liturgical deacon at the Eucharist. She also chairs our Social Responsibility Committee, which raises thousands of pounds for local, national and international charities each year.

Sandra Anderson has recently joined the team as a newly licensed lay reader. She currently assists the clergy as a liturgical deacon at the Eucharist and officiates at Evensong. She is a member of the PCC, a Deanery Synod representative and secretary to the Pastoral committee. She will be developing her pastoral care role. Sandra has taken a lead in organising the Christ Church winter night shelter and continues to work on our Eco awareness. She is a podiatrist working locally and in central London and is married, with two daughters.
