About

Christ Church Choir

Christ Church Choir is made up of singers of all ages, many with a strong background in choral music. The junior choir, for children aged 6-16, combines with the adult volunteer choir on a Sunday morning to sing the 10am Eucharist service and the adults sing for 6.30pm Choral Evensong on Sunday evenings. The choir is often engaged in trips to Cathedrals across the UK and abroad and gives concerts and makes recordings.

History

The choir has a long history and a strong tradition. For many years two choirs existed: a choir boys and men which sang Mattins and Evensong for many decades, and a ladies choir formed later to sing for most Sunday Eucharist services. As the Anglican worship became more focussed on the Sunday morning Eucharist service in the 1970s, the men and boys began to sing once a month at the Eucharist service and subsequently Choral Mattins was dropped. Under Director of Music, Chris Dell, and vicar, Brian Mountford, the ladies' choir amalgamated with the all-male choir to sing Eucharist and Evensong, an arrangement which has continued in a similar form to the present.
