Auditions for potential scholars take place in July, September and January. Occasionally vacancies arise at other times, and interested candidates should register their interest at music@christchurch-southgate.org at the earliest convenience.
Christ Church offers four choral scholarships to singers aged 16-25 of any voice part. Each award is worth £500 per annum, to be put towards a musical enterprise of the scholar's choosing. This could be lessons, summer schools or courses, recording projects or any sensible suggestion of the scholar's.
The scholarships, designed for those on a gap-year or recent graduates but also suitable for committed sixth-formers, are a wonderful opportunity for young singers to gain experience of singing at a high
standard in a group that covers a large amount of repertoire. They are also an excellent preparation
for any young musician wanting to pursue music further, especially singers who may wish to apply for
university choral scholarships. Many young members of the choir have gone on to exciting organ and
choral scholarships, at places like Christ Church Cathedral in Dublin, Clare and Robinson colleges at
Cambridge University, and Keble College at Oxford University.
The scholars play an active role in the life of the choir and take part in all the various activities enjoyed by the volunteers. They have the opportunity get to know a wide range of music, improve their aural and sight-reading skills and learn more about the Anglican Church and its traditions. They make friends of similar ages and interests and enjoy trips together across the country and abroad.

The Audition
The audition will be an informal meeting with the Director of Music. It will include some aural and range tests, a prepared piece and some sight-reading. You should prepare one piece of any style or genre to sing with or without accompaniment.
