CHRIST CHURCH SOUTHGATE CHOIR

*For information on joining the choir and details of the Choral Scholarship Scheme at Christ Church please click here.*

The Christ Church Southgate Choir sings for the Sunday Eucharist at 10.00 a.m.; the Sunday Choral Evensong at 6.30 p.m.; and for holy days. The Choir, led by Director of Music, Harvey Brink, and accompanied by Assistant Organist, David Hinitt, is a lively group with a strong history, which - in addition to singing for worship at Christ Church Southgate – tours, records and gives non-liturgical concerts. The 36 person choir includes a line of boy and girl trebles, plus adult men and women. The repertoire covers a wide-range from plainsong through new compositions by composers such as Judith Weir and Arvo Pärt.

The Choir rehearses forthcoming music during a weekly rehearsal every Friday. Children and adults are able to work on vocal technique, tuning, stylistic approach, choral discipline and sight-reading development. The Choir takes a holiday during the week after Christmas, the week after Easter and the whole of August, but there is a certain amount of flexibility within the system to take additional days off during term.

In March 2006, the Choir recorded an Evensong CD, featuring Herbert Howells' Collegium Regale setting of the canticles. A Christmas CD is in the planning stages.

In August 2008, the Choir sang services in Paris at the Basilica Ste-Clotilde and at Notre Dame. We returned in May 2009 to sing a concert and services.
