As Christians we give money to the church during our lifetime as part of our discipleship. A legacy is our final act of giving to the church, in thanks for God’s love and the many blessings we have received.
During lifetime capital may be tied up and inaccessible, leaving a legacy complements our stewardship.
Why does the church need legacies
In the past Christ Church has benefited from generous benefactors who have left legacies that have enabled us to develop and build for the future and engage in new areas of outreach e.g. youth work.
Legacies help secure the work of the church for future generations so that the Kingdom of God continues to grow and reach out to bring people to Christ. As we pray in the Lord’s Prayer “Thy kingdom come…”
Making a will
A will is an important legal document and it is best drawn up by a solicitor, who will ensure it is worded correctly.
To ensure legacies remain within the parish the beneficiaries should be “The Vicar and Church Wardens of Christ Church, Southgate”.
