Fr Chrichton was born and brought up in Northwood Hills on the Metropolitan Line and from an early age was a choirboy at the local church, quickly becoming involved in all aspects of parish life. A career in broadcasting beckoned, with time spent at Hospital Radio Mount Vernon and pre-match announcements at Watford Football Club. He spent what felt like too long at University at Reading and then at Cambridge studying psychology, ending up with a Doctorate in Psychoacoustics. On a church trip to the Oberammergau Passion Play he met his wife Judith.
He spent 30 years working at the BBC in London in a number of varied roles – mostly spent in News – ranging from Sound Engineer, Producer, Director and then Production Strategist.
Chrichton and Judith have 3 children – two live in South London and one is in York studying music. Before ordination in 2012 Chrichton and Judith took a full part in parish life in Berkhamsted. It was here that Chrichton clocked up his 45th year singing in a church choir. Chrichton and Judith were heavily involved in establishing a Hospice at Home Charity; Chrichton played in a show band for over 15 years – performing at weddings and other odd functions to raise money for the nurses.
Chrichton trained for the priesthood at St Mellitus College in East London, gaining another degree while sitting next to our curate, Hazel Miall every week. He completed his very fulfilling 3 year curacy at All Saints Leighton Buzzard, within the Ouzel Valley team. It was a very busy time in a civic church at the heart of a traditional market town. This gave him the privilege of ministering to a wide variety of people of all ages, providing spiritual and pastoral support.
Since becoming Vicar of Christ Church Southgate, Fr Chrichton has introduced more services, meaning you can worship here six days a week. He looks forward to meeting you soon.
